Capture a Video Tutorial - We need your feedback
Hello;
Take a look at my to-do list for the summer:
Clean Garage- Go Camping
- Update Video Capture Tutorial
As you can see, the only thing left to do is to update the Video Capture Tutorial. And this is where I'd like your help.
Please check out the current Video Capture Tutorial, it's just over 2 minutes long.
The video can also be found in the Help Center.
So, what are the things you think should improve in the video? Do you understand the process for taking a video capture? Are any parts confusing or unclear? Do you feel some information is missing?
I'm looking forward to your input - it will help to create a better video.
Thanks!
I think overall it is a very nice video. I can understand that you preferred to go camping first.
Since you asked for it, some small things that you might change for a new version:
* Slow down the first seconds a bit. The movement to the 'sun' and the selection of the button is a bit fast.
* You explain the Pause button - also a good option to move the window if needed?
* Might be good to mention that you can edit recordings made with both versions of Jing in Camtasia Studio 6.x
But all in all, not the worst screencast I've seen. :-)
Pierre
The video looked good. I assume WebCam capture will still be a separate video since there was no mention here.
Thanks for a Great Product! ;-)
@Pierre - Thank you for the excellent feedback - it's great stuff. I'll definitely consider it when I rewrite the script.
@Bruce - I've considered talking webcam, but I'm wondering if keeping it separate might be better... I'll have sleep on it and ask some more people. Thanks for your input!
Overall, your video is simple and to the point. One thing however that came to my attention by one of my clients is that, what you show on your screen, "the 3D rotation"...can be misleading.
I showed this tutorial to a client of mine recently and she said: "wow...that's cool...I can see how I could use the 3D image rotation in my Jings. Yikes...I know...but I thought, if one thinks it...maybe others do too.
So a suggestion would be to record a little bit bigger area of your screen and to open and close a few different windows to show that the screen is being recorded. (instead of your 3D rotation software).
Cheers,
P.S. I use Jing daily and as of this month, I am getting all my clients on Jing for their weekly updates...Thanks God for Jing is all I can say...
I'm a novice and I was able to get it to work. The only question I have (because I'm a novice) is what program opens a swf file?
@pollinator. I'm glad it worked for you, this is very valuable feedback. You can open the SWF file in any browser that has the Flash Player installed. You can drag the file into your browser, and most of them also have a File > Open File Option.
Hope this helps, and thanks for your feedback.
I have a suggestion for Jing. Recently I used Jing to post some screenshots to Flickr. In would like to keep them on Flickr, but delete them from my capture history. However, right now, if I try to delete them from my capture history, they delete from Flickr. Could you add a check box to the dialog that comes up allowing you to choose if you want to delete the photos off of Flickr? Something like this would be nice:
Delete Capture
Are you sure you want to delete your capture from the capture history?
[checkbox] Delete capture from Flickr as well.
Cancel/OK
That way, I could clear out my capture history, but still retain my images on Flickr. It'd be so much more useful.
Thanks!
Nathan
Is there a way to use Jing with Cam Studio instead of Camtasia? Thanks.
I know my microphone works because I've tested it by recording my voice on a Powerpoint slide. When I record in Jing I can't here myself. The mic is not on mute. HELP

Great video. I had no problems getting started, but am plagued by the dreaded "SSSSSSSS" sound when recording my audio. It is totally unusable and I have no idea how to fix it.
