Jing Pro & HD Video on YouTube: Definitive How-To
Want to put some sweet-looking screencasts up on YouTube? It's easier than ever, and Brooks shows you how. (See outline of steps below video.) In Brooks' last post I gave him a hard time about that face close-up. I mean, people are trying to learn stuff here! The good news is that Brooks took efforts to make his intros a little more bearable. Did it work? You be the judge.
I also made a convenient PDF (less than 2 pages) with all the steps too.
Overview:
- You need Jing Pro, and a YouTube account.
- Create a YouTube button in Jing.
- Record a video in 16:9 aspect ratio (Hold Shift while selecting area) at 1280 x 720 dimensions.
- Upload to YouTube, and wait while your video is processed!

Well, I tried this, and ... unless I evolve enough to grow a third hand sometime soon, I can't simultaneously hold down the Shift key and drag an area using a laptop touchpad mouse. Any hope of making the Shift key selection sticky?
Err, is there something I'm not understanding? Hold down the Shift key with your left hand and use your right thumb to hold down the mouse button. You then use your right index finger to drag the selection. Since it "snaps" to the correct aspect as you expand it, you should have no trouble getting it to 1280x720. He even does this in the video tutorial!
Thanks Very Good Hosting
Very funny and informative - You have given me a brilliant idea!!
Rollers are also now on the shopping list - I can now see their value as well.
:-)
Keep up the great work guys - you rock!

Can you not upload a video to youtube with the fee version on jing, is jing pro a must?
The key with Jing Pro is that it can create videos in MP4 format. The free version of Jing creates SWF videos. SWF is great because it's royalty-free, works great on the Web, and is Mac and Windows friendly.
Theoretically you might be able to convert the SWF videos into a format YouTube would take, but SWF isn't a true video format so not many things will touch it.
Thanks!

Thanks Mike, any suggestions on how to convert it though?
Can I convert a jing file that I already recorded and upload it YouTube or do I have to redo it? I didn't have JingPro at the time I record it. I need an answer by tomorrow this project is do. I'm sure my classmates would like to know the same thing.
Hi Jill,
If you are on Windows you can get the fully functional trial of Camtasia Studio. http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp
What you'll want to do is drop the SWF Jing video on the Timeline and produce as an MP4.
To be honest, it might be faster to just re-make your video with Jing Pro, but Camtasia just came out with a new version and there's so much you can do if you need editing powers and more. Here's more help for Camtasia: http://www.techsmith.com/learn/camtasia/documentation7.asp
