Jing Quick Tip: Editing a Previous Capture

Posted on Wednesday February 13, 2008 by Anton Bollen

Hi Everyone,
Did you know that you can add additional effects to your previous captures, and even send them to a different output?
All you have to do is double-click on the thumbnail in your history, and your capture re-opens for editing.

PS: You can't remove or change any previous edits. Sorry.
PPS: This is not going to overwrite your previous capture, but create a new copy.

Oh, and here is a video I made to demonstrate these steps. Enjoy!

Until next time...

Anton

Hi Jean-Paul.

Go to your Jing History, then select the image or video you want to delete. There will be three icons below the selected file, including 'Delete':
http://screencast.com/t/6FzFJ1RuvE

Choosing delete will delete the file from your Jing History, but also from Screencast.com, Flickr or whatever output you chose for your capture.

Thanks for using Jing.

Hi Guys,

I am a beginner and i have just installed JING.

I am having a problem with the setup after keying in my emails and country...

It says there was a problem connecting to the Web. (but i did not have any problems going online)

The details mention , a transport method error occurred when calling : "Screencast.Admin.User.Create."

Can someone kindly enlighten me on how to solve this issue?

Many thanks in advance.

Please note that this is only the case with Images. You cannot do that fancy editing stuff with video in Jing (yet?).

How do I remove the typing sounds and mouse clicks from my video's???

Jing has worked out tremendously so far for me when it comes to creating mini-tutorials for faculty and students on using our Online course hosting system. However, today I ran into an issue where I created a video, it placed the link on my clipboard, however when I paste, a different item copies over, not my video link. When I go into my Jing History, it says the link is already in my clipboard. Not sure how to get that link out of the clipboard, or if there is another way to see the direct link in the History section.

Cyndie -
Can you copy the link to your clipboard by going to History, and clicking on the Share icon one more time? What happens then?
Let me know, I'm sure we can find a solution to this.

Should we expect video editing capabilities through Jing in the future?

Is there 3rd-party software available at this time to edit video captured through Jing?

This looks fantastic! I'm a high school teacher and our district can't afford Camtasia, so I'm very excited about Jing. I hope it stays free for a while, or is at least more affordable after this trial ends!

When I double click on a video in my history to edit it - it comes up but I have no options. I do not get a toolbar on the left to add text, etc.

Any ideas why? TIA

Anton :

Hi W. Ross,

Jing does not allow for video editing, which is the reason why you don't see any editing options for your videos.
Sorry for the confusion.

I am having the same problem as iakwin above:

"The details mention , a transport method error occurred when calling : "Screencast.Admin.User.Create."

Any suggestions on what can be done to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

EdP-
The most likely cause for the problem is a Firewall or Anti-Virus software that is blocking Jing from connecting to the Web. Make sure that both are giving Jing the necessary permission.
I hope that helps :-)

Is there any way to not have to sign in to Screencast? I am using a proxy server (that is to say, I am required to use a proxy server) that will not allow this to happen, even though I have a Screencast account. I typically save my files locally to a hard drive anyway.

I have a previous Jing release on another PC that works just fine and doesn't require the Screencast account. Would it be possible to acquire an older release, or at least make the application proxy-aware?

Thanks again!

why can't I sign up for jing even though I had turn off the firewall?it always say that internet connection failed even though I can still browse the internet.

Gerry :

Yep, I'm getting that problem too. If my firewall was blocking it I would have received a popup asking me if I wanted to give it permission, but there is nothing and no mention of Jing in the Firewall config.

Hi oiwfdjh and Gerry,

Not sure if this is the issue, but are you talking about when you have to enter an email and display name for the Screencast.com account? If so, double check that you follow these restrictions:

Your display name must be between 2 and 20 characters long. It must start with a letter, cannot include spaces, can be made up of letters, numbers, and the following symbols: period (.), hyphen (-), and underscore (_).

Hope that helps--if not, I'll check back and see if you have more info. Also, consider contacting tech support at http://support.techsmith.com
