Sharing Images with Jing
Posted on Wednesday July 18, 2007 by Matt Dyer
Jing makes taking quick captures of your screen easy. Here's an overview of what happens after you choose to capture an image.
Here are some other things to keep in mind about images and Jing:
- While editing, you can undo using Ctrl+Z on the PC and Command+Z on the Mac. To redo, use Ctrl+Y on the PC and Shift+Command+Z on the Mac.
- What you select is exactly what viewers see. Images are saved in the lossless PNG format and are not resized.
- Sharing your capture will close your preview window. To open the capture to edit, share, or save again, double-click on the thumbnail in your History. You cannot undo or redo after a capture has been shared.

Hi Matt,
When I capture a picture like you did above the share, save and cancel tabs isn't across the bottom. Any idea of why not?
Thanks

I have been having difficulty sharing my video captures. When I try to share it. it always comes back that there was a problem connecting to the web but my capture is not shared but is in my history. But it doesn't do me any good if I can't share it. I've gotten around this error in a couple ways. First, I have saved the video but it is a shockwave flash object and can't be converted by my common programs so then I can upload to google and embed. so that's no good. I have then been goimg to screencast and selecting share and have been able to embed the html and email the url. But, screencast says it is expiring on 10/21. HELP. My work is on a wiki and a blog that lots of people use - over 200 members on my wikid! I don't want then not to be able to access the info. My email is cshortz@gmail.com but I've had to use cshortz@hotmail.com to use screencast. Help ASAP

I am also having trouble sharing my video captures. It comes back with a message saying it's not sure what happened but it is saved in the history. I am prompted to re-share but the same problem repeats itself.....very frustrating.

I just wanted to make sure that the movies I am sharing to my officemate is safe and secured and is not publish or available for other people to see. Because we have very delicate informations and we don't want anybody to mess up with our company securities.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks,
Pamela

Thanks

I use Jing a lot but I am getting annoyed that all the photos or whatever I capture go to my Microsoft picture program when I just want them to go to the desktop. How do I change the destination to desktop? Thanks.

Giovanni--Try using the region selector to record a smaller area of your screen. Jing cannot resize video after they have been recorded, so starting with a smaller area is a good idea for making watchable videos.

I downloaded JING 2 or 3 days ago. That is as far as I have been able to go. Even after watching your videos 2, 3, 4 times. Is there anybody at JING that can assist me? Otherwise, I'll have to get rid of JING, since it is merely taking up space.

I see you guys using text balloons and other stylized arrows (curved & dashes). I don't seem to have those features. I've looked around the archives and haven't seen anything relating to this subject but I could have missed it. I'm using Jing (which I really love so far) on a Mac. Are there more features for the PC version at the moment? Or is this something that will come into later development?
Thanks.
liz
P.S. And seriously, this is a very cool "project". I've found so many ways to use this and I've only been using it for a couple of days.

Shoot. Just when I got the hang of jing and was able to convert the .swf files to an older version of Quicktime (so I could then import into iMovie), my Quicktime program got an update and now this is no longer possible. Any suggestions or do you know how to retrieve the old version of Quicktime and erase the update so I can go back to what was working? Thx.

I would like to use a Smartboard notebook presentation in conjunction with Jing. I'd also like to record my commentary with it as I give the slide show (video on Jing?). Do I open the notebook and capture it and give the show as I'd like it presented? Also, does the program that I'll need for the commentary (soundflower?) require a fee?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Kerry,
I think I can clarify a few things.
1. Be aware that Jing as a 5-minute video time limit. Jing's main goal is to allow for quick, short visual communication. Some people have referred to it as "visual voicemail."
2. Jing can record audio (your commentary) right "out of the box." Just plug in your mic or use your internal one, and you should be good. Soundflower is in the event people want to get fancy and record system audio. Soundflower is 100% free.
3. If you still want to record, given the 5 minute limit, start up your presentation as normal. Then start Jing. Select your whole presentation window, and choose video recording. Alternatively, you might want to check out Camtasia Studio, which is really made for what I think you want to do. There is a 30-day trial at www.techsmith.com
Best wishes!

Hi Phyllis,
Are you trying to share with Screencast.com? If you're still having trouble, I'd suggest contacting support.techsmith.com. They'll sort it right out. I hope you'll soon be able to share those videos!

Trying out Jing for the first time. Can't upload image to screencast.com. I get this error.
Jing isn't sure what happened, but there was an error, so your capture is in your history. Try to share it again.
Any ideas?

Here are a couple resources that may help you put a Jing video in a PowerPoint presentation.
The process is fairly similar on PowerPoint 2003 and 2007.
A video from Moyea PowerPoint to DVD Burner Software showing PPT 2003.
Here's a post written by Amit Agarwal on Digital Inspiration that shows PPT 2007.
