Ditto to Todd's question: how can we publish these to our own servers? Jing looks great, but I'll not want a subscription to a separate server. I'll want to use the server I have available to me at my workplace. Still, I'll try Jing out with the free trial sub to screencast.com, until that runs out.

When editing an image, to undo use ctrl+Z. To redo, use ctrl-Y. There currently aren't any undo/redo buttons.

Sorry Jingsters, I got that awful message from Microsoft that said "Jing has encountered a problem and needs to close" once I had installed the software (including .NET). Rebooting didn't help either.
Tried this on my laptop and on my desktop - same result. The product SOUNDS great but currently I am out in the cold with my nose pressed up against the glass. Can someone help me?

Awesome app and it worked like a charm the first time. I have had your Camtasia Studio on my PC for a while and love it. Have been looking for something like it on the Mac and this seems to be it.
Are you supposed to be able to capture sound with streaming video or am I not doing something right?
You have done it again!!

for all those with the error message "jing needed to close" i suspect it's because you are running intel 64 processor like I am and as Ron says
Jing does not support Intel64 or x64 platforms at this time.. :-( any ideas when... it's a shame i have to fire up my old laptop to get using this which would be SUCH a useful tool.....

I have a question about the video capabilities. When I save as a video it appears to capture at a very low frame rate. The curser becomes inactive, flashes and cannot interact with the screen. I can use it to capture the screen and audio just fine but the video output is choppy as if the frame capture rate is 10fps or even lower. Capturing a motion seen is not working. Do I need a faster machine or video card or is the frame capture rate low intentionally because capturing more data would stress the upload to the shared site?
I use Camtasia Studio and can see how this could assist me in help desk work if I could use the video too.

thanks S.Fjalar that worked so now I can have a bit of a play. The only problem is that I'm in Australia so those date formats don't work too well for me if you understand what I mean... I will have to remember to switch them back all the time but I'm sure that will be sorted out soon :-)

Jing is an incredible program. I have recorded basic video and screenshots perfectly. Once this is fully developed it will be a great product. I am not a huge fan of having to sign up to third parties and possibly paying for that as well as this product. So hosting on one's own server would be beneficial. All in all this is amazing and I plan on using the hell out of it for the trial period!

I can see this as a great tool for creating software training videos. I would be really good to be able to highlight certain portions of the screen, insert text notes and the like and then later remove them as we move through the training.

Jing-- nice concept, bold interface! Since a significant amount of your potential users need to produce proprietary/secure content, we have to be able to point output at Intranet, secure Extranet, or even possibly peer-to-peer.
Needs:
1. Ability to save the output to local HD and UNC CIFS share
2. A piece of server software that fits into LAMP, WAMP management scenario.

@Ian: "I'd like it available somewhere else as well, so I can re-copy it if necessary." It's in your History (middle button in the sun). The newest captures appear at the top of the History window. If you select one, and click its little Share button (three arrows), you'll get the url on the clipboard again; we do not re-upload it (except if necessary, like if Jing can't seem to find it anymore on Screencast).
Also, we use Growl, and would like to add support, so that users have their choice. We'll be looking into that in the future.

Unless I'm a total idiot, how do I cut and past the screenshot url from my clipboard? I'm using the clipboard viewer in Windows XP and all it shows is my screencast url - I can't seem to copy it from there to send to people. Where can I actually find the screencast url so that I can easily cut and paste it to my emails/webpages?
So I guess my feedback would be to dumb this down a bit. When you select "share" instead of just having a message the the url has been saved to the clipboard - have it spit out the actual url with a copy button so I wouldn't even have to go to my clipboard. I could just click the copy button and I'd be good to go.
In addition, the history view should also have the actual url shown with a copy button and/or delete button as well.

@Prince--To play a SWF file that you've saved locally, drag and drop the file into your Web browser. You can also right-click on the file, and choose your browser from the Open With menu. SWF files generally aren't associated with a player on your system, but they play normally in a Web browser.
@Travis--When you hit the Share button Jing actually copies the URL to your Clipboard so that you don't have to do any copying yourself. You never need to view your Clipboard; you can just paste the URL anywhere you want. Ctrl+V is the Windows paste hotkey. The goal of Jing is to make communicating visually as easy as possible, so we tried to cut out the middle steps.
Thanks for your feedback.

The Jing Project is very easy to use, and I think a user is only limited to the possibilities by their imagination.
I agree with other comments that a user should be able to get the text to imbed the .swf videos on their own servers of choice (which they are already paying for), rather than having to use your server, or purchase time on another server (yours) to be able to share their videos after the project is over.
The other thing I have an issue with is not being able to choose whether or not you can have Jing removed from startup, as I have been unable to stop it on startup, even when un-checking it my msconfig startup tab.
Very annoying not to have this control over a software program.
I have tried many of the functions, and feel, overall, you are on the right track for a great product.

Any suggestions on how I might speed it up. I do have hi-speed

@Pat--To capture Jing with Camtasia Studio, make sure you have Tools>Options>Capture layered windows enabled in the Camtasia Recorder. Here's a quick screencast pointing out where that option is: http://www.screencast.com/t/w_GkGQS9dh
The most recent version of Jing for Windows (1.2.5) has options to disable launch on startup and to hide the sun launcher.

Ya gotta give us at least a little bit of control over the recording frame rate.
I have an Athlon XP 2000+ with 768MB of RAM. It's a relatively weak machine, but with a small amount of patience, I can do anything I want on it.
Unfortunately, I couldn't use Jing. When I went to capture some video, Jing hogged all of the CPU time and the app I was attempting to record (IE) was unusable.
Please give me some way to say "Relax, Jing. It's ok if you only capture half of the frames."

I moved it from appliations to the doc. With control click, I see a check next to open at login, but even when I click on Open, I don't see any Jing menu. How do I access it?

I value simplicity, so asking for bells and whistles isn't the best thing. But three things would make Jing more practical:
1. Allow specifying a transparent color.
2. Permit enlarging the "canvas" size.
2. Allowing a variable (including no) text box/callout frame. Jing captures for small areas are too limiting for annotations/callouts unless these items can be pared down and/or the canvas can be made larger so callouts can be placed outside the actual capture.
Thanx!

This sounds like an interesting set of variables. I'd mostly be guessing if I tried to give you a solution. I'd recommend contacting TechSmith Tech Support. They've got some experience along these lines. http://support.techsmith.com. I made a Jing to show you where to go once you're there. http://screencast.com/t/QbcyToiM8

I downloaded and tried it out. Want very much to like it because I can see it being very helpful to me. However, when recording video on my mac and one of the actions I wanted to record was me scrolling down on a website page, the resulting video I recorded was very choppy, much like making a cartoon with a flipbook. Very herky-jerky, not very smooth at all. As a result the arrow cursor would disappear and reappear, making following along with what I was trying to show very difficult. Is there anyway to fix this?

I must admit that the first time I looked at Jing I was excited and bookmarked the page - never to visit again.
Well after a full year I bumped into it while looking for a solution for my current contract. Man, this rocks. I'm so excited - I think I'm becoming a Jing evangelist. Just emailed the crew and when I get back to my office, I'm going to use it for our social networking site tutorials.
Kudos for a great app.

I have installed Jing on a Vista Ultimate SP1 Dell laptop running at 1920x1200 resolution.
When I start Jing the logo appears large at centre of screen and then fades to the small icon shown in the video ie a small half-sun at the top-middle edge. However the "shadow" also shows to the right of the sun image as a quarter ellipse which looks very odd.
More importantly I can't do anything with the sun icon. Mouse-over/mouse-click etc nothing happens.
I'm running 32-bit Windows not 64-bit.
I have Camtasia Studio and use that for my own screencasts, but was hoping to demonstrate Jing to some colleagues and other folk. Can you give any ideas as to why I just can't get Jinq to run on my PC?
Thanks!

Please,
I love Jing and I taught my students to use it.
Now my computer has been reset and I'm trying to reinstall Jing from my back up files.
Jing doesn't seem to recognize my password, I can't find where to ask for a new password... what shall I do?
My young students are in a International Competition and I need Jing to explain some alterations to them.
I would be very thankful if you helped me :)
