A Bug for Netbook Users
It's come to our attention that there can be a problem with the Jing interactive tutorial and Netbook users or users who have their displays set to a low resolution. Visit support article.
The issue is that the buttons you need to skip or continue to the Jing sign up process are cut off so you can't see or click them.
Many people can get around this by pressing Alt + Spacebar, then using the arrow keys to reposition the window. However for some, even after doing this the buttons are simply just gone. (Sigh.) The good news is we have a workaround in our support system where you can download a little file that will "trick" Jing into skipping the tutorial. The details are here: Visit support article.
We hope you might keep your ears open in case you hear someone experiencing this issue, and in the meantime, we'll work on a real fix. Thanks!
Reminder: you can always see and share the tutorial here.

I was user of Jing since the beginning but now I can't. I work in a network that doesn't allow internet access so I can't use Jing or Jing Pro. To bad you require a login. Yes I know about Snagit and Camtasia but those are both over kill.
I love Jing and I recommend it to anyone that needs its type of functionality. Although I'm a Pro (paid) user, I still prefer the .swf format since it scales better on low-resolution screens and smaller browser windows.
But on the subject of Jing's user interface, I really hope the development team considers adopting more of a native interface, using native windows, buttons, etc. The Jing interface, while fun and different, really feels like an outsider.
I have a net book...EEEPC and I can't get to the button that lets the program start. I tried moving the screen around...no button and I tried downloading the fixit file but I couldn't put the file in the folder without getting the message "you don't have permission to do this...blah, blah, blah." I don't know how else to proceed...Do we have to have this invisible button???
Hello Linda,
Are you running as an administrator? One thing to try is disabling the User Account Control.
To disable the UAC (User Account Control) go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn User Account Control on or off and make sure that the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer option is unchecked and press OK.
If that doesn't work, I'd try sending a note to http://support.techsmith.com
Sorry about that missing button...

I encountered the same problems. The button didn't appear when I moved the window so tried the other work around and that didn't work either. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling (several times!) but no joy. Adding that xml file didn't seem to do anything. If I try to open Jing I get two things on my taskbar 'Jing Notice' and Create an account; but clicking on either does nothing. Had to kill the process, not good!
I ran it ok on Vista until recently, but now on Windows 7; has Jing been properly converted and tested to run on Windows 7??
When do you expect to have a fix for this rather critical problem that apparently came up over a month ago?
Hello Pete,
We aren't aware of any particular issues related to Jing and Windows 7. Are you on a Windows 7 tablet?
I hope you don't mind, but I opened a ticket for you with Support. They should be in contact with you soon.
I used the email address you entered when you added this comment.
Sorry to hear you're dead in the water!

I think a few random presses of tab and return pressed the button for me.
I have downloaded Jing. The sun icon is missing from the top of my laptop's screen. When I click on the the sun icon in my shortcut menu I keep getting this message: "Jing is already running. Look for a a round, yellow sun peaking out from the edge of your screen or right click jing from your system tray.
My short cut is in the system tray and I still get this message.
Help!! I have a class assignment.
