We Are Terrible Bowlers.
Last Friday 12 members of the Jing team (past and present) went out for an evening of bowling. We are not good at bowling, and it was painfully clear by the end of everyone's 1st frame.
We sure had fun though. Yours truly set the bar with a scorching 127 to win the 1st game. My dominance was not to last however. Dennis, our intern, who bowled under 100 the first game caught fire and rolled a 198 in the second.
"Proof":
Slight confession: Based on the results of our first game, we had the bumpers out for everyone in the 2nd and 3rd games; so technically there should be an asterisk next to our scores in the record book.
The 3rd game deteriorated as usually happens when unskilled bowlers realize there is no way we'll knock all those pins down. One of the highlights of the final game revolved around this question: With all 10 pins standing, and the bumpers out, is it possible to throw a ball that makes it all the way down the alley without hitting any pins?
Theories were split. I said yes. With the correct angle, I bet you can laser the ball right between the end of the bumper and edge of the 10 pin. However, due to lack of skill and accuracy I was unable to prove my theory. (So close one time though!)
But--just like in the movies, on the last ball, on the last frame, Bill stepped up and proved a grown adult can get a score of 0 with the bumpers out. Leave it to the lead developer to triangulate the throw originating in the next lane, over the near gutter, off the far bumper and then angle right into that little space where there is no pin and no gutter.
"Proof":
As you can imagine there was great cheering and if we had a huge jug of sport drink we'd surely have poured it over him. Alas, there was only beer, and that cannot be wasted.
Our evening of embarrassment over, we came back Monday (maybe a little sore) and focused on something we do much better--sharing screen captures really fast.
Nice, sounds like it was a lot of fun. Glad the Jing blog is starting to have more transparent, personal, fun posts - it was starting to have an infomercial type tone.
However, I am a sad panda that the team never did these types of activities when I was still at TSC :-(
nice to see some techies are getting out and about having fun
you guys deserve it
Jing is very VERY cool
saves me lots of time every day, working on website, fixing bugs, stoked i found it
thanks again!

Thanks for not posting my dismal bowling scores, Mike. The bumpers were seriously needed
I still havent figured out the difference between Jing and Snagit?
I've made screen shots in the past with text etc to show steps of whats needed to do and composed them in an html email to send out to a list of people.
I think I'm missing something :) what is different with Jing?
Don't feel too bad Jerry - I missed it too. I was stupid enough to take vacation time that day. :/
Luckily, though, it prevented an inevitably horrendous bowling score of mine from getting online. ;)
Hey! Way to go guys! Nice to know I'd be in good company bowling with you. I was once in a league that lasted an excruciating nine months (brings to mind another painful endeavor that lasts the same amount of time....). My average was 106. I even went all out an bought a ball, shoes and matching bag. I may suck at bowling, but at least I'm color coordinated!
