Top 10 THINGS to do with JINGS
How do you Jing?
Here's a list of popular ways people use Jing. Leave a comment and tell us how you use it!
- Give verbal feedback on digital assignments instead of printing them out. (And save paper too!)
- Make narrated "how-to" videos for co-workers, family and friends.
- Capture your high scores when playing addictive online games. Send the proof to your friends!
- Record your kid(s) on a webcam and send the link to the "video postcard" to Grandpa and Grandma.
- Capture information as you plan a trip, compare prices, or are learning something. Name the Jings in a way that's easy to find them in your History.
- Something go wrong on your computer? Don't just try to explain it with text--send an email to tech support and include a Jing so they can see exactly what's going on.
- Want to put something on YouTube or Flickr? Jing makes it easy to add your content there.
- Capture something you're working on, annotate it, and then send it out to solicit feedback.
- Embed videos and images in your website, wiki or blog.
- Share a hilarious image in an instant message with family or friends. Jinging and then pasting the link is so much faster than trying to attach an image!
That list is a good start...now tell everyone how YOU use Jing?

Nice idea. I just might do that.
Hello guys.
I tried Jing last year and really like it. I downloaded the recent version (I am not sure recent but it is the most recent) my problem is that is hung once I finished recording a video? I cannot seems to be able to share it or save the file. I am not sure if there is any file saved. when I just do a screen shot then it works fine. I can save the file and there is no problem.
I am thinking there is a problem with maybe Quicktime which I recently loaded on my system. A year I used Jing video recording without any issue.
Could somebody help?
Thanks a lot.
I really think no. 6 is helpful
seems obvious, but why not hotlink each of the Top Ten with a real life example?

Used it tonight to show one of my co-workers an issue I was having on my computer. Nice to have a quick way to create a small video showing the exact problem instead of trying to convey the problem with screen captures and text. Pushed the vid to screencast and sent my co-worker the link. Thanks Jing!
I want to use the print screen feature of Jing but when I click the sun at top of screen the bell rings but the 3 offshoots do not appear. Is the sun not working or do I do something else to open Capture Screen?
Hi everyone, I'll attempt to respond to your comments.
@ Mohamed, have you tried Tech Support? http://support.techsmith.com There was a QT issue a while back where QT updated and broke the video recording for Mac, but we think we fixed it and Jing should automatically prompt you for the latest version.
@ Raoul, Thanks! I know our Support loves it when people include a Jing too.
@ G P Witteveen, Agreed. I hope we can get something in place where people can consent to share their examples with everyone and make it easy for them to avoid taking a hit to their bandwidth consumption.
@ Dianne, You don't have to click the sun. The capture "Ray" should appear if you just mouse over the sun and wait a second or so. It sounds like the Sun is frozen up. Have you tried quitting and restarting Jing? (Use Task Manager on Windows and Activity Monitor on Mac)
Thanks for the comments everyone!

I'm a web application consultant and I use Jing to communicate; screen development with designers, issues with QA, issues/enhancements with end users, and project status with management (usually a little movie showing where the product is at). It's a great communication tool.
I use Jing and MS Onenote for academic research. Jing is ridiculously useful for reading .PDF journal articles and pulling out important information.
With the highlighting feature, I can more work done and keep it in a format that's FAR easier to manage than any alternative.
I LOVE Jing. I use it for many of the things listed above...but most of all, I use it to send what I call LeapMail™ to my clients. Basically, I record a voice message along with visual to keep in touch with my clients on a weekly basis.
It's like a glorified voicemail that they can listen to from anywhere on any device...it allows me to utilize my gift of gab and it saves me from writing long F/Up emails.
Thanks Jing!
And speaking of #9, can we please bring back the embed code BUTTON?
Please?
Pretty please?

Please remove the 5-minute limit on video. Thank you.
The Pro version should have a higher - or no - limit on the video length.
We use it for capturing screenshots of us trying out competitor websites so we can present back to the team each month.
A few days ago I used Jing to show what problems I was having with a product (Time Zone Helper). The company (Data Mystic) loved the way video worked for us, and now recommend the tool to users, on their customer support page:

"Short videos are the best way of showing us your problem or question - see Jing which is Free - http://www.techsmith.com/jing/"
Good luck with the project.

I use Jing to build how-to videos for customers using my company's Content Management System.
On the personal front, I use it to provide commentary for recent recreational flights I have taken as a private pilot. I have a few paragraphs to say what went on during the flight, and a Jing video showing the map, and other relevant charts with audio commentary over the top.
While making a training video, I needed access to the Start button. The jing button box is directly over it and I cannot find a way to move it. Am I missing something? Thx!
I'd definitely put VIDEO BUG REPORTS on there. OMG, way easier than following steps. I had to include Jing in this blog post: http://tr.im/hLOy It can be tricky to give steps in a 3D virtual world like Second Life and Jing... takes the cake!
I absolutely LOVE Jing. I'm a Jing addict. This has got to be my most prized addition to my web toolbox, and the one I tell everyone about. This has so many uses its not even funny. It saves me so much frustration when guiding people around the web to things they need to know. I bow at the Jing project feet! YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK!!!!
The thing I need Jing for most is the ability to PRINT the Screen Capture.
I can't find the Button to Print - Please Help !
