Screencast.com Announces Improvements
Last week we posted about Screencast.com's new optimized display which can provide a nicer viewing experience and viewing option for larger images and MPEG-4 videos. Here are a couple of other new features that might be of interest to some of you.
- All Screencast.com viewers can have improved content navigation: There are now thumbnails below your content and above are 'previous' and 'next' controls. (See an example) This feature doesn't apply to your Jing folder. There's a couple of reasons: First, you probably don't want people to be able to see all the things you Jing, and second, some people have thousands of Jings in that folder and viewers wouldn't appreciate the delayed loading time.
You can certainly move desired content out of your Jing folder to take advantage of this convenient feature. See this post about managing your content. Learn a lot more about content management on Screencast.com.
- Screencast.com has also released a customization feature for Screencast.com Pro customers--Page Templates which allow you to change the color, upload your logo, change the headers and footers, and customize your View pages. Check it out here.

Tell us what you think!

It sounds nice but most of that is stuff I don't use.
I think the time limit should be lifted on Jing Pro. I upgraded partly because I don't like most of the professional recording tools for the Mac, and for what I need, Jing does the job without being a memory hog.
I'd rather use Camtasia but then I'd have to log into Windows, which I hate because it won't record the windows in the Mac environment, which is what I need recording for in the first place. So then I have to waste time replicating everything I was going to record in Windows.
With Jing Pro, at least I can make all the recordings in Jing then import to Camtasia. But I wouldn't even have to do that for most quick videos if the time limit was more than five minutes. I spend half my video production time stringing together a bunch of five minute videos for bigger projects and it's getting annoying.
Why not make another tier of Jing Pro with unlimited record time? If the hosting is the problem, just fold the cost of it in along with an upgraded account, or better yet, make it so we can't upload to Screencast if the recordings are too long. I don't want most videos I record that are longer than 5 - 15 minutes to be embeddable or visible in Screencast anyway.
Hi there. Really like your software but i think there is a feature missing. :)
If I already have a .jpg on my computer, i would like to be able to right-click it and select "open with jing" OR just drag it to the jing-sun so that i then can upload it quickly to screencast.com.
That way I wont have to open the image with another image viewing software, and then capture the ~area and then upload. ("~area" - because it's hard to crop the exact pixels. And sometimes you want to do that)
This has nothing to do with the blog post. I'm sorry for requesting features here :)
PLEASE make the embed code for screencast.com easier to use and more functional.
Resizing the embed window size is WAY MORE complicated than it has to be. There are other screencast/video hosts that automatically give you a size for HD or other preset sizes. Why not screencast.com?
Also, to manually change the window size you have to change the parameters in several locations all over the very dense and long embed code. Why not in just one place like other hosts?
It's unfortunate that the easy-to-use Jing is paired with the overly complicated and feature limited screencast.com host. TechSmith needs to get with the program here in the age of HD videos.
Unless you fix it, my hosting dollars will continue going elsewhere.
...and, of course, lift the time limit for the paid-for Jing Pro!
