Introducing the Jing Help Center & Changes to This Blog

| | Comments (18)

We're happy to announce a spiffy, brand-new Jing Help Center. It's the one place to go to discover everything Jing. Almost every article has a short, informative video you may even find entertaining. We think people will like the new Help Center, as previously on this blog help topics would become buried in all kinds of non-helpful posts--and search was therefore less helpful too.

Speaking of this blog--do you like the wider, lighter, cleaner look? We've done other maintenance too. Namely, we unpublished all old, help-related posts that applied to old versions of Jing or simply were improved over on the Help Center.

So, here's the plan. If you'd be so kind, send us your comments and feedback on the Help Center. Meanwhile, this blog will become more devoted to interesting and creative ways to use Jing, and hopefully we'll start getting some guest bloggers too. Want to tell a story? Have an idea for a post? Send it!

Thanks for an awesome product.

Where do we go if we're having trouble with Jing, and the new help center doesn't answer the question?

Jing just forced me to download the newest Mac version, and now after installing and running for a few minutes, it has disappeared. I can't re-launch it, because it tells me it's already running. But the little yellow sun is nowhere to be found. Restart the whole computer just to use Jing? This is crazy!

Is there a forum or something for issues like this?

Hi Zel,
Yeah, you shouldn't need to reboot or anything like that.
I doubt this is the case, but maybe Jing is hiding up in your menu bar? Scroll to the bottom of this page: http://help.jingproject.com/manage/jing-startup-and-sun-options/

One idea is you could kill Jing with your Activity Monitor and see if that does the trick. And/or better yet, if you send a quick email to support (http://tinyurl.com/7re7l4) they do the best job of rooting out the stranger issues _and_ tracking them and working with developers to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Quitting through Activity Monitor did the trick, and it seems to be running fine now.

I'd like to know before purchasing Jing Pro, if it has unlimited video recording time or is it restricted to 5 minutes as in the freebie version?

Quote floater

John, videos are still limited to 5 minutes in length for Jing and Jing Pro at this time.

Hi Mike,

I love Jing and use it almost daily.

On startup, Jing required that I install an update. I click "Get the update" and it seems to install just fine. But when Jing restarts, it gives me the mandatory update prompt again.

I've tried installing it at least 15 times. I tried Modify, Repair, and even uninstalled and reinstalled Jing all with the same outcome. A collegue who also uses Jing is having the same issue.

Any ideas?

I have been using the basic version with no problems, but with the pro version, my videos come up as a black stationary screen. I can still play the videos I made with the basic version just fine. And, I have no problem making still shots. I have Pentium 4 and 3 gb of memory.
Thanks,
Alton

I love JING but have one big question. I have Jing on all three of my computers and was wondering why my Jing history is computer specific when I use the same user profile? Is there one common place to save my screencasts?

Quote floater

Hi Ben,

Unfortunately the way the History works right now is that it's computer-specific. Now, what you could do (not suggesting it's ideal) is if you share to an FTP or Screencast.com you could access your content via the web from any of the three computers. Thanks for taking the time to explain your situation and your desire to have a common Jing History.

I saved the file successfully but when I replay from the file, I get picture no sound. When I replayed it after recording, it worked

Just Uninstalled Jing! Way too jerky when trying to set capture window with cursor. May be my computer but have not had this problem with other programs. Suggestions?

I absolutely love Jing... just upgraded to the Pro account. I'm using Jing for short video training support at a school. The teachers love having the visual walk-through and it has made my life supporting teachers so much easier!

Jing has to be the best tool ever!!!!

Quote floater

This tool is perfect and I am spreading the word everywhere. I would easily pay more than your subscribtion price if this thing had three things more that I do not believe would be hard to add. 1) ability to upload to a specific FTP and get the link to it like we do for your upload location 2) add the ability to add comments on any place on the screen like with Camtasio Studio so as to make this the most powerful quick and dirty screen capture ever. 3) Enbed the logo or watermark like with Camtasia. That and stop it from crashing constantly but that does not bother me much, just need those two additional features to make this the perfect little screen capture program. Camtasia is amazing when I did the 30 day trial but it is way too powerful and no where near as useful as this little tool which without having these features i requested is still a gem! I would gladly pay more per year to have its simplicity with those three additional feature, one of which is already there in the pro version!

I use Snagit. I would love Snagit for Mac since that is what I am using now. Snagit...Snagit...SOOOOON PLEEEEESE!!!

I am totally new to jing.
I have captured some info into my history.
How do I print it?
Help

Quote floater

Hi Skip,

Jing doesn't have any built-in print functionality. You'd have to either save the image and then import it in something like Microsoft Word and print it, or you could click the Copy button in Jing and then switch over to an application that supports the pasting of images and print from there. Thanks for your good question--sorry for that middle step!

i deleted jing pro from finder, is there any way to reinstall it because my year isnt up yet

Quote floater

Hi Nick,
Go ahead and install Jing from http://jingproject.com and if you sign in with the email address you used when you got Jing Pro, Jing will automatically go into the Pro mode.

One way to think of it is there's just one "version" of Jing--and it just depends on whether the account is "Pro" or not.
