Hey Guys, today I used Jing again and the message about required update appears. During install of the update my avira antivir pops up and found 2 times a backdoor virus within your update files!!
And now just remeber that I had a horrible expierience last week because my computer was hacked and someone hacked my ftp passwords and uploaded lot's of spam shit and scripts to my webs. Now I'm wondering because I used Jing the first time 3 weeks ago.
Ar you sure you know that you are safe with that code ???
best regards
Jürgen

@Jürgen

So, are you all good then?

It seems sometimes when we release a new update we get a lot of false positives.

We'll try to get in touch with the anti-virus people to get that sorted out.

Sorry about that.

We definitely don't have a virus.

Thanks for the infos!
It was just during install / uninstall, as I told you. And I was afraid about my hacking-expierience last week, but that should be happend because of another reason 2-3 month ago. So Jing seems to be clean. Anyway, it is always shocking if antivir alerts that and this should be avoided.

@jalal

No plans for Linux version right now, but hopefully soon we'll get the 'ok' :)

I am running OSx10.5 and the latest version of Jing (downloaded today). When I go to define a large capture area JING closes and doesn't show a capture window. Any ideas?

@Derek

I submitted your question to tech support thru here:

They should get back to you.

What about people who are using this from places that block access to Screencast.com

Just the other day I was using an older version of Jing that worked perfectly, until it was able to find out that there are updates available and it decided to lot let me copy/save any of the captured images!

Now I cannot use this because there is no way I can login to screencast.

Can that (screencast account/login) be made optional? PLEASE!

@Boliver

Sorry about that, but for now at least the Screencast.com login is still required.

You must have had a REALLY old version if it wasn't required.

I'm curious, if Jing was able to detect and get an update, you should be able to login to Screencast.com.

Maybe tech support can help with that?

Again, sorry.

I want to identify JUST a picture as a small part of what's on the screen. Then I want to save that picture as a .jpeg file to my computer. I can't figure out how to do it? Can you help an old man like me with a little hand-holding and explain each step for me?????
----Thanks, Bill Paisley

@Bill

Sorry but Jing only captures as .png You can't currently capture as a .jpeg

If that's still ok, here's how you would capture it:
- Click 'Capture' (the left most ball)
- Click and drag out the part you want to capture
- Click 'Image'
- Click 'Save' button (looks like a disk)
- Select where you wanna save it and click ok

More how to's are available here:

I am a business and computer instructor at Yavapai College in north central Arizona. Many of the classes I teach are asynchronous (online or individually paced). In distance learning, we all struggle to find creative ways to connect with our students though we don't share a physical classroom. I wanted a quick, easy tool to use as I assess my students' papers and assignments that increases my connection to my students.

I have just started using Jing as an assessment tool as I grade papers that my students submit. I use the video/voice capability so as I discuss the changes or updates I would like to see, my students hear my voice and can see what I highlight or point out. It is almost like being there! So far my students are liking this form of assessment and I am getting positive feedback.

The only thing I need to keep in mind is our ADA requirements. If there is a student who is deaf or hard of hearing, this method may not work as a stand-alone solution: I have to revert to typed assessment.

thanks for a great tool!

Hello,
I just started using Jing. I posted a video and someone told me that after they watched my video, they received a message that some program was trying to load a trojan virus onto his computer....has anyone experienced this before? What should one do when this happens? Please help!!

Thanks!

Hiya Jeannie,

Jing videos are either swf or mp4 that are played in Flash Player. Should all be pretty standard stuff.

As far as I know there shouldn't be any trojan virus.
