Jing a Trojan? Epicly unlikely.
Posted on Wednesday March 5, 2008 by Matt Dyer
A few users have been kind enough to point out to us that AVG antivirus software is currently giving a warning that the Jing .EXE has a trojan in it. Jing doesn't contain a trojan, or any other type of virus.
While the Jing Project is new, TechSmith has been around for 20 years. Honest, no trojans. :)
We’re trying to get a hold of AVG to get it sorted out. We'll be sure to update you when we find out why we generate a false positive. Thanks for letting us know. We really appreciate the feedback.

I was getting this error on the most recent update. After a few tries, I decided to see if AVG had an update. It did. I downloaded a new virus def and then the Jing update went through. This was a few days ago.

I had Jing both versions installed on my Mac and have Parallels 3.0 with Windows XP and using AVG installed and just found the Jing exe for 1.4 was picked up as a virus. Very odd.

Stumbled across Jing this morning. It's incredible. Thank you so much for creating it!
I plan to use Jing to help me give video feedback to bloggers looking to improve their blogs. It will also come in handy for tech support stuff.
Just wanted to say thanks for giving the world this amazing tool for free.

Don't worry. Our software PhraseExpress is also occasionally suspected as being spyware/trojan as it includes a keyboard hook. I assume that this is also what your wonderful Jing triggers the "Security Softwware".

I cannot download "jing" because of the supposed Trojan it contains. What can I do to bypass that alert and continue with the download?
Thanks,
Ralph

Ralph--I haven't confirmed it myself, but a report above said that if you update AVG this problem should go away.

I just got done downloading and installing JING for the first time. I have current AVG and didn't have problems with the install. (It did give me problems yesterday though???)

Hi folks,
Oh, I'm awful! I love Jing, I spread the word to everyone but I completely forgot to send this error as feedback to Techsmith. I will of course remedy this, but just to let you know, I had this error as well on 3/04/08 and it was due to Windows XP creating a restore version of the Jing exe. Haven't gotten the error again.
Aloha,
Cheryll
