Editing Jing Videos - What's Your Take?

Posted on Friday February 22, 2008 by Tony Dunckel

Over the past several months, we have received a lot of requests for tweaks, enhancements. However, a core group of requests have naturally risen to the surface and while we are talking about all of them inside TechSmith, some seem to be more full of questions than answers.

So naturally, when in doubt, we ask the experts - YOU. One area in particular is the notion of editing the videos you make with Jing. When this topic comes up, lots of debate, conjecture and even fortune telling with our magic crystal Jing ball starts to happen amongst the team. With your help, we are looking to better understand what truly lies behind that very broad request - EDITING.

With your participation in a short 6 question survey, we can get a much stronger grasp of what this means from your perspective and ultimately decide if that makes sense for Jing.

Thanks for your help in making a better Jing.

Hello Jing,

You have now got a real beginner here!

I have some friends and we all love jazz.

We talked about buying DVDs etc, and finally came up with the idea of copying a jazz show from the internet and looking at it together.

I searched around and found that JING was supposed to be really good for this. So, I have downloaded it.

I am not too sure about just copying the show and then playing it on my pc, because we don't really want to send it (share it) over the internet, it would be just for us to look at.

I hope that there are easy to follow instructions in JING, and when I succeed in actually finding and copying a jazz show, I will tell you how a beginner managed !!

(I have had a computer for about 2 years and my learning curve has proved to be a little precipitous!!)

I shall now try and find out how to record the show and then how to look at it!!

Wish me luck!

Regards

Colin

Cool you deleted my post..

I love the program and got about 30 friends and developers to use it..

I am really waiting for SSH because yes I don't have and don't like FTP... Why should I use resources for something I already have running?

Hi guys!

What an absolutely smashing idea! This will really help out people who can't afford the Camtasia 5, i've got Camtasia 5 but I'm still gonna have a play around with it and tell everyone I know about it! ;0)

Best wishes,

Great Program. I am using to create training videos for my software. Is there a way to remove Play button on the front end. And the Replay on the Back. The credits are fine.

I really like the program so far, with it's beautiful crispness, its lack of a watermark, and the automatic-uploading feature. What I don't like is the fact that the video is saved in an swf form. It makes if super easy to immediately upload and share, but if I want to edit it, I want it in a more playable, non-proprietary form, such as avi, which requires no specialized software to edit. In my opinion, this would be the best improvement to make.

Thank you so much for your consideration, good luck, and best wishes.

I would add to the accolades, as well as to some comments I've seen about editing/resizing the videos.

Like many others I have a large screen at super high resolution - it would be fantastic to be able to resize the captured videos for easy sharing with others who don't have such large screens/resolutions - as well as to be able to post in forum posts etc.

Thanks for the fantastic work!

T Baker,

Thanks for your comments. We have been seeing the same trend on viewing issues whether due to resolution issues on the viewer's display device or because users are attempting to embed their captured media into blogs and website and needing their media scaled down.

The good news is that it's at the forefront of our discussions here at TechSmith and we are looking for the appropriate solution that fits nicely into the spirit of Jing.

I wanted you all to know this wasn't falling on deaf ears :-)

Thanks,
Tony

Well, I use Jing for training purposes. I direct a television show and for anything having to do with the art of the show I use Jing to train all of my co-workders and volunteers.

The largest issue I have is the one problem in two of having a 1920x1080 high resolution Apple Cinema Monitor, but most of the workers I communicate with have 1024x768 monitors. When I post the images and videos on the web they are huge and they can't see my complete capture area which really defeats the purpose of me using Jing. I really love the program, but this is a major communication barrier.

Thanks for all the good work and such an awesome gift to all.

Warmest Regards,
