double click on icon but doesn't open. It says it is installed.

Latest Jing on Mac OSX.4.11
Double click on app - nothing happens - attempted to reinstall and when I do it says the app can't be installed - it is running. The app does not appear in the Force Quit Apps window.

The exact same thing happens to me.

It appears that there is a 'glitch' on how Jing is configured to perform in a non-windows environment. I have installed Jing 2X without a hitch..but this app is not working. Can the development team address this item as I called the company specifically to learn if there was anything to 'test' drive for Macs and was directed here. PS I used SnagIT and Camtesia regularly and really want to have an app for use on the MAC. txs

I've downloaded Jing 3X and tried to launch both automatically and when that failed -- manually. Please advise if there is a work around ---txs

I had the same problem, but i think i might have found a way around it. Try to right-click Jing in your applications folder, choose "show content" > "contents" > "mac os" > "jing". When you double-click that icon, Terminal will open, and eventually Jing should open too. If you shut down Terminal, Jing will shut down as well. At least that's what happened here, so i hope it works for others until the bug is fixed.

yes, this phenomena of ”jing is aleady installed” sounds familiar to me too . . .
. . .but then i discovered a little pie of a sunball in the upper right corner of my mac desktop, kaching. . . there it was, the open program.

Yeah, Jing is a little un-Mac in its workings. As Peter pointed out, look for the little quarter pie of sun in the upper right corner of your desktop. Hover your mouse over it to get some "rays." The lowermost ray will give you preferences (gear icon), where you can change from the sun to the menubar, and also tell Jing to launch on startup.

I have been getting the same error (lack of response). Through this blog, I gave the Terminal method a try, unsuccessful, but I did get some feedback that I thought may be helpful.

For some users, this may just be that the 'unobtrusive' sun in the upper right corner of the screen is too subtle, and they just don't notice it; or that they've switched from the sun to the menu bar, and can't see the menu. We've had users that had just these problems (as Peter and Mark describe above).

But for some users, Jing may be crashing during startup, possibly while trying to show a set-up window. If you think you are getting this crash, please be sure to contact our Tech Support dept., to help diagnose and resolve it. Sorry for the trouble.

Oh that sun. It blended so good with my desktop image I didn't notice it. The sun is unusable if one has the dock on the right side of the screen....

I was wondering where your history files are saved on the Mac?

Marcel: You can move the sun to any corner, and some sides, by dragging it by its white nougat center. For what it's worth, I keep my sun in the upper right corner, and my Dock is on the right (magnify on, and not hidden), but I keep my dock small (2/3 height of screen), partly thanks to Stacks.

Andrew: ~/Library/Application Support/TechSmith/Jing/Bin, or in human-speak: Each user account's home folder has a Library folder, with an Application Support folder for data like this, where we put our company's stuff, per product. The Bin folder (old name of History) is loosely managed, and if you change things in it, you may/may not cause problems. But it's intentionally simplistic/un-mysterious.

What happened for me on Mac OSX5 is that I switched to "menu bar" mode (from the sun in the corner mode) and couldn't find the icon. I had to Google around to make sure I understood what the menu bar was! (It's the top menu for all your applications that always appears, unless you are using two screens.) Turned out there were too many items in the menu bar on the small screen I was using and the Jing icon was hidden. When I changed the resolution of my screen, I could see the icon. Annoying! The icon you should be looking for is a two arrows pointing at each other in a circle.

I still need some serious help even after reading this. I can not get logged in.

First of all Jing does not even bounce or have a marker under it indicating it is open.

Second after I double click Jing, I get the log in for screencast, I have tested the username and password on screencasts site and had no problem but the jing/screencast login just keeps repeating.

I have installed and uninstalled. What is going on?

Read through all of this. Scavenged my desktop for icon. Had to reinstall after not being able to open. Created one video before Jing closed and again would not reopen. When attempting to open using terminal...
