Jing for Windows - Version 1.4 Update
Posted on Tuesday December 18, 2007 by Bill Scanlon
Hiya. New guy here. This update has a couple of new featurelets, but it is mostly bug fixes. Here's what this update contains:
- The 'sun' launcher can be positioned by dragging it. Neat.
- Jing should work behind authenticated proxy servers.
- The capture's default name is ISO format (without spaces).
- [width]/[height] tags can be used in share link templates.
- Blurry image previews were fixed.
You can download it here.

Feature-Request: It would be really nice, if you could incoorporate a function to copy the screenshot as image to the clipboard. It is then very easy to embed it into mails as inline-image.

Every time I start the latest version, I get a message that "an update to Jing is available. Jing must update in order to share..." If I get the update, with jing open or closed, it seems to download and install, but nothing happens and I repeatedly get the message. what's up?

@Steve Kersten
Sorry about that.
A server between TechSmith and you has probably cache d the old version.
We see this everytime we release and we'll work on ways around that, but unfortunately for now you have to wait for the server to refresh.

Wow! Quick response! Don't worry: I can wait for the refresh. :) Keep up the great work.

The JING update from within my old version stopped at 5.25Mb out of 5.26Mb and wouldn't go any further. I eventually downloaded it via www.softpedia.com but now it won't display any captured video. Everything looks fine but click the play button and nothing happens. The old version worked just fine but this new version is a disaster for me at least. Very disappointing and a waste of time trying to figure out what is wrong. I'm searching for my old version and certainly won't be updating any time soon.

Ever since the update came out in December, I have been unable to use Jing at all. It tells me I need to download the update to share, but the update never downloads. I tried the link in the blog a couple of times (a few times in December and again today), but to no avail (I manage to get a few KB, but that's it). I have just found a November 29th version ("Jing Project 1.4.7331") on download.com. Is this the correct update?

I've just answered my own question: it's not the right one. I open Jing, it tells me it's updated and let's me get back to my previous session. I click "share" and it tells me I must update, but "get the update" doesn't seem to do anything. Argh! I loved Jing when I could use it, but this is really frustrating!
