Start the Singing! Jing 1.4 is Out the Door!

Posted on Friday December 14, 2007 by Mike Curtis

My Favorite Jings, the music video! We think you’ll find this post which is unlike any other on our blog. When you have a bunch of folks working on a project so intently and for so long, something’s bound to give. What started off as a couple goofy stanzas somehow evolved into a video montage with lyrics performed by TechSmith’s own Renu Taneja. Don’t ask how this happened, we’re not entirely sure. (Maybe the Friday afternoon after a long release week had something to do with it?)

We do know that if you want to meet the Jing team in a new light, check out the music video. Oh--and we apologize if this song gets stuck in your head and friends and colleagues start giving you strange looks…

My Favorite Jings
Performed by Renu Taneja
Lyrics by Mike Curtis

Yellow ball sunshine and endless good feedback
I’ll play with Jing until I get my Wii back
Cute little arrows and captures with bling
These are a few of my favorite Jings

High scores in Summing and videos playing
I give you a mock up- see what I’m portraying
You can use Screencast (www.screencast.com) we don’t attach strings
These are a few of my favorite Jings

I love embedding FTP and blogging
Video voicemail- less on the phone calling
We work with Flickr and all that it brings
These are a few of my favorite Jings

When the apps crash.
When the link’s bad.
When you hate my idea.
I simply remember my favorite Jings
And then I don’t feel so bad

Jing for Windows - Version 1.4 Update

Posted on Tuesday December 18, 2007 by Bill Scanlon

Hiya. New guy here. This update has a couple of new featurelets, but it is mostly bug fixes. Here's what this update contains:

  • The 'sun' launcher can be positioned by dragging it. Neat.
  • Jing should work behind authenticated proxy servers.
  • The capture's default name is ISO format (without spaces).
  • [width]/[height] tags can be used in share link templates.
  • Blurry image previews were fixed.

You can download it here.

Jing for Mac - Version 1.4 Update

Posted on Tuesday December 18, 2007 by Don Sherry

We fixed a few bugs in this release, and added more key shortcuts when adding text boxes to a capture:

  • support text alignment key shortcuts: for left alignment use command { (shift-open bracket), for centered use command | (shift-back slash), and for right alignment use command } (shift-close bracket).
  • improved support of proxies when sharing to Flickr
  • fixed a bug when capture width is 0
  • fixed a bug with locating the sun on a second display
  • fixed a bug with the height of some windows
  • cleaned up some wording

After releasing this morning, we found a serious bug with re-sharing to Screencast.com, and fixed it in the 1.4.3892 release.

You can download this new version here.

How to Save to Your Desktop

Posted on Wednesday December 19, 2007 by Mike Curtis

Greetings! I made a video using Camtasia Studio showing how you can save a video or image to your desktop. Please pardon the audio. I used the built-in mic on my laptop while travelling and I recorded in far from ideal circumstances. How to Save to Desktop (4:24)
