One Jing Capture, Multi-Image Trick
AJ Morris works in TechSmith’s Tech Support department and often uses Jing when helping customers. One day he was showing me some examples of the Jings he’s made and we came across this one.
“How did you get so many images in one capture?” I asked. “How did you capture the mouse cursor?”
“Huh?” AJ replied. “It’s not a big deal. I’ll just show you.”
AJ showed me indeed, and core to this example is the use of the Hotkey. It lets you keep the mouse in focus while still launching Jing. Now, I will attempt to show you. Some of you may already be using Jing this way, but it was new to me! I especially like how this strategy could be used for times when you need to print out a quick guide or short reference.

Capturing and annotating the image. (0:55, audio required) Since I couldn’t easily use Jing to record a Jing annotation, I used Camtasia Studio 5 for the second part of this workflow example.
Written Steps:
Step 1: Clear off your [computer] desktop. If this is hopeless, open a word processor and view a blank document in full screen mode to create a clean background.
Step 2: Open the software you are attempting to explain.
Step 3: Click the necessary tabs, pull-down menus and pop up windows. Arrange the windows side-by-side in a sequential manner.
Step 4: Launch Jing and capture the image using the Hotkey. Annotate as necessary.
Step 5: Share!

One Jing Capture, Multi-Image Trick

Mac users, yet another desktop-clearing solution (this is FREE).
If you can't afford Deskshade (or don't want to), try Desktop Curtain from Many Tricks. Instead of cleaning your desktop, Desktop Curtain simply places a temporary image over your desktop. Just drag an image of your choice to its bounding box, or choose a color from the Color Picker. So simple!
The example link returns a 404 error for me.
The blog entry to the video indicated that we might learn how to capture a mouse cursor with Jing... doesn't appear to be any such detail in either of the videos. I know it will capture it on a video... but I want to capture it in an image if possible... If not I'll just continue to use the arrows to annotate I suppose.
Hi Charles,
Sorry about that 404. Looks like AJ lost his image on his screencast account after this length of time.
One thing that you can do as a work-around if you really want the cursor is to first make a video of your step or multi-step process. The video will appear in the Preview Window. Press play, and then Press pause when the video gets to the point where you want the image.
Then take a capture of the still video in the Preview Window.
I know that's a lot of steps to just get the cursor, but I'm afraid that's the best I have for now.
