*NEW* Jing - Version 1.4

| | Comments (15)

Here it is. The 7th Jing Project release in 6 months. Tony previously hinted what we were going to release with version 1.4. Now it's available to all of you. Here is a list of what's new:

  • Share to FTP
    • Both videos and images can be shared via standard FTP
    • The share and embed strings that are put on the clipboard can be customized
  • Share images to Flickr
    • Existing Flickr users can have image captures sent directly to their account
  • Streamlined sharing to File
    • You can now share quickly to your chosen directory with one button press
    • The share and embed strings that are put on the clipboard can be customized
  • Usage reporting to help improve Jing
    • This is anonymous and optional
    • We use this to gather statistics about how these sharing methods are used
    • This lets us figure out where the Jing Project is headed

As always, it is available for both the Mac and Windows.

Can we save images still to the hard drive if we don't want to upload to separate sites?

Disregard my post. I think I found my answer in the newest updated blogs after the Modern Scrapbook blog.

Hi Jing-Team,

it's been a while since I took a look at your project and I'm really surprised about the great new features of Jing. I missed the FTP-Upload very much - til now. ;-) And the mentioned SFTP support would be the dot on the i. Also the new "URL/Embeded-Code Creation" feature is amazing - I never thought about this before in combination with the FTP support, but with hindsight it's very wise. I think you've done a great job... although I didn't test the new version (yet).

So, now I can't wait to check it out - with all the great stuff I read about in the previous blog-posts.

Greetings from Germany,
Martin

@Thomas
Nice to know... ;-)

Well, I tested Jing now for some hours and found 2 ugly probs.

1:
Jing rejects creating share links with templates like http://www.domain.de/jing/jing.php?item=[filename]&height=[height]&width=[width]. It returns a message, that the URL Prefix would be buggy. I guess it's because .../jing.php?item=... instead of an expected / at the end of the URL Prefix. Using embeded code template works fine, but those should be still usable for larger and real embeded (HTML) code instead for single URLs... :-/

2:
I use a dual screen setup with a total resolution of 3080x1050 (1400x1050 & 1680x1050) on a P4 3,2 Ghz notebook with 2 GB RAM and ATI Radeon 9600 GFX Card - before you ask: yes it's amazing :-p. But BTT - when starting capturing Jing slows down the cursor movement to about 5-10fps and the systemcooler starts to blow like a twister. It's really difficult to make a fast and exact region-selection with this laggy hopping cursor. :-/

I allready sent a feedback to the jing team. so let's see what they say. ;-)

And yes, I also would like to have sftp / https support inside Jing. ;-)

Greetings from Germany (again)
Martin

Forget about the first problem I mentioned. It's only laggy as long as you don't start selecting (pressed mouse-button) a region... my mistake - sorry. ;-)

can you please add an option to share using imageshack?
then , you could have the option to copy the URL to your email , and share it with others much more easily, without any registrations.

Quote floater

Would love it if you could also upload directly to Picasaweb since it supports flash movies.

I am using my own FTP server for storage instead of screencast. I do not want to use screencast. Why then, should I still have to log onto screencast every time I start Jing?

I have been having a problem installing JING because of issues associated with "Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1" and the several sub-divisions beneath it that per Microsoft cannot be removed:
Net Framework 1
Net Framework WinForms
Dr. Watson
Net Framework ASP .Net
Net Framework 2
Net Framework PreXP
Net Framework CRT
Net Framework CA
Net Framework CLR

Why can't the JING Team figure out how to resolve this problem.

Also, I have no entry of Jing in my Registry Editor after installing it.

SFTP support please!

Quote floater

Jing needs to use a registry key to specify the capture folder and capture hotkey
