Jing for Windows - Version 1.2.5
Posted on Wednesday August 1, 2007 by Michael Malinak
We just released version 1.2.5. We've been trying to hit some of the bigger issues that people are reporting and hope this helps.
Here are the larger issues that are addressed in this build:
- Fixed crash when going into standby/sleep mode in XP
- Can now control launching on startup from the program preferences inside Jing
- You can now hide the launcher UI
- The system tray icon can be used to capture
- Fixed bug where launcher would stay open

Folks who have had the previous version, from when Jing sprung on the webscene, will need to download again.
Or will the existing program automatically update to current version???

(It was supposed to be a question and not a statement)

You don't have to manually download, the next time you share from Jing you'll be prompted to update.

Well, I've already posted a comment about the file formats (see next blog entry). So now I just wanna ask, if there are default hotkeys for the stop, pause, mute and cancel buttons in video record mode? If not, are they planed? I'm really missing that feature, if I wanna quickly interrupt the recording to make changes in the recorded area, which don't have/need to be recorded - this saves time and the file becomes not unnecessary large.

Do you have any hints for recording on-screen procedures so that the download from Sceencast is smooth? I've notice that after uploading a 35 second 640x480 size-ish clip that it starts quickly but doesn't continue the download to keep up with the recorded clip.

Great software, awesome idea. What I would like: The ability to post a video I create on my site or blog :) Instead of just a link.
Thanks,
Karl

Fantastic product guys! I have been playing around and have one comment.
Alongside all the capture options, one could be "cache-a-webpage" on screencast.com
This would save a webpage as a static HTML page, hopefully without annoying ads and banners for later reference. I wonder how the Intellectual Property issues will pan out. However, I remember using a similar service and have lost track of it.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

This is a wonderful product. As a web developer/designer professionally and an avid blogger, this will change/enhance the way I do stuff. I'm way pumped.
Quick issue on install. Check conversation currently happening about it on Pownce at: http://pownce.com/AnnBernard/notes/579934/
One person said, "Unfortuanetly, their Windows download is corrupt." When I was installing it, it asked me to install the 3.0 .Net framework, which I did and it worked great. I already was at 2.0. Is that something that needs to be a heads-up for folks? Most non-developer types probably don't have it installed or even aware of it.

I'm an avid user of Jing on my desktop but I'm not not able to share any images on my ThinkPad T60 Laptop. I've un-installed both Jing as well as the .NET runtime several times to no avail. I have no idea why this won't work on my laptop but works on my colleagues who have the same make & model laptops.

You should be able to install Jing and .NET 3.0 over .NET 2.0 just fine. I know I've done it on multiple systems. There may be an issue if you were running an earlier beta version of .NET 3.0 though. I don't think we've fully tested those situations.
