Jing for Mac - Version 1.2.6

| | Comments (12)

We have added several improvements and fixes in this version. You can download it here.

  • There is now a Check for Update button in the help area of the More window. We also check for updates on launch and once a day.
  • For users with more than one Screencast.com account, you can change which one Jing is logged into, via the Preferences in the More window.
  • Jing now shows progress during an upload, and uploads can be cancelled. They can be restarted via the History window.
  • We have a workaround for MSN Messenger blocking our URLs. This was described in an earlier blog entry, and now we adjust the URLs within Jing automatically.
  • The reliability of uploads to Screencast.com have been improved.
  • We improved support for system-configured proxies.

Jing looks wonderful, if only I could use it :(

I have Net Frameworks 2.0, but I'm darned if I can get frameworks 3.0 installed - just keeps giving an error "DepCheck indicates Windows Presentation Foundation is not installed - MSI returned error code 1603"

Has anyone else had this problem?

This app is great but I wish to have more image editing options (as in SnagIt - copy/paste parts of the snapshot being edited, crop, etc). It's sad these new features are still delayed, or at least, could we find out somehow if there is any intention to add them? This would be a big plus compared to other similar apps like Skitch. Thanks and keep up the great work!

jay's observations are like mine - I've produced
the same video 6 times - (by recording the
QuickTime player, with a .fla video w/ audio) -
it's a 2.5 min video - and ranges from 43 to 72Mb.
all other things being equal, the same video
produced by Jing (source is an .fla file, played
in Quicktime, captured by Jing) - is 203 Mb on
Aug 27, and 170 Mb yesterday.

for a Jing video produced on 27-Aug, size is
72 Mb. so, I uninstalled, then reinstalled an
old version of Jing - Jing video produced today
is 58 Mb. source .fla video is the same.

Version 1.26 saves much larger video files than version 1.25.
1.25 video capture: 3'43", 738x524, 8.41MB
1.26 video capture: 3'50", 742x503, 32.4MB

These were two different videos, capturing the same area of screen and similar amounts of screen movement. There are slight differences in pixel size and record time but a massive difference in file size.

iSaw -

many thanks for your observations.

you have summarized very well.

I, too, have tried to use very same reference .flv file,
playing in same QuickTime Player, and capturing that
with older and newer Jing app.

for each situation - older Jing does more efficient job
that newer Jing. (in terms of filesize - which is a
big deal, for us.)

for each situation - the time of day seems to make a
difference. e.g., capturing same .flv file does vary
in filesize, all over the map.

reference .flv file has audio, typical screen movements, etc.

This is very rare, I wonder why is it that the file size varies...you think it might be due to the amount of enhancements that occurred between the 1.2.5 version and the 1.2.6 one?

Hi
Are you fully ignoring Linux or are you working on getting this to work on Linux as well? I didn't find any information about that.

Thanks!

Great app, I'm using it on a MacBook and it records the microphone, excellent for explaining things, but Is there a way to record the internal audio? I mean the one that is coming out of the computer?
Also: when I made big recording, I cant see the control bar when opening it in "Flash Player", is ther a way to fix it to appear closer to the middle?

Thank you

I already posted in the "troubleshooting" blog post that I always get the error message "unable to save your capture...". I wonder, is there a place where all the error messages are listed, so I can check what might be the reason for it? I tried google but it didn't come up with any results for this error. Also wouldn't an error message with a specific error number be more useful? Thanks for reading!
