Getting Embed Code from Screencast.com
Posted on Tuesday August 21, 2007 by Matt Dyer
Updated October 10th, 2007: Jing 1.3 added the ability to get embed code from Screencast.com to the UI.
Additionally, Screencast.com now has a "Click to Play" feature that only loads a thumbnail of your video when embedded. This means that your video isn't loaded every time a viewer loads the page, saving your bandwidth for actual views of the video.

Safari beta 3.0.3 [Mac] only copies 1024 characters of the code. The Media Roll code is longer than this and so will not work if copied with Safari. Firefox copies all the embed code.

I love the idea of Jing -- but what security lies around my images or videos - we have a lot of proprietary information that can't be outside the firewall.

I wrote a long note a few posts back on the PNG and SWF discussion - basically saying don't bother - leave it alone.
I've started to reconsider it for one selfish reason.
After years on Windows and switching to the Mac, not having Snagit turned out to be a huge problem since there was nothing close on the Mac platform and Snagit fundamentally changed how I communicated.
Here's the rub - using Mail.app on Mac accepts any picture format, however, the only thing that stays in line for Outlook users on Windows in GIF (I don't know why - I suppose it has something to do with the exchange server and how Outlook handles HTML).
Now I'm sliding towards the camp of getting a preference for formats.

Thanks Dave. We are hearing all sorts of reasons for supporting additional file types. It ranges from wanting to upload it to different sites that don't support .png or .swf to needing a format that can be edited in another product to platform to platform issues like you have mentioned.
We are evaluating how to use this information to make Jing as useful as possible for everyone, yet keep the simplistic approach we used as a cornerstone of Jing.
I take it from your comment that simply placing the url to the "shared" content in the message is not sufficient for your purposes?
Thanks,
Tony

Is it possible to host the swf myself? I'd like to embed the content into a blog post, but if there's a bandwidth issue, maybe I could host it myself

Can you add audio to your screencast videos if you are using the video as an instructional video?

Is it possible to scale a screencast while embedding it by manipulating the embed code I get from screencast?
I made a big ("big" like 1024x600 px) screencast to illustrate my enthusiasm for Jing/mac :) but was unable to insert it into my blog which has a fluid center column for content.
Are there other values than <param name="scale" value="showall"> like "fit to width" or "autosize"?
This would be nice & easy... at least for me.
Anyway, great tool

Once you store the video files you create. Are they saved online to be viewed by others? In other words, can we build a 'video catalog' and just post links as we make the presentations?

How do I add text to the video I've created?
Thanks!

I've been trying to get my video capture to appear on my blog as a thumbnail, but am unable do so. How do I it onto my blog so that people can click it in order to maximise it? A the moment it shows just a quarter of the screen. On the help site the help section 'Getting embed code from Screensaver' mentions a 'Click to play' option, but it doesn't tell you how to get it to work. If anyone can help me, I'd be really grateful.

Great question! I tried editing the code, changing dimensions, didn't work, all I got was a smaller portion of the screen, even losing the play button. Can always add the link to blog, but wanted embedding video.

@Heidi, I have used the "Media Roll" feature to embed a small thumbnail into my blog, and I wonder if this is what the phrase "click to play" is referring to.
There's a video about using "Media Roll" here:
http://www.screencast.com/users/Training/folders/Screencast.com%20Training/media/bd66d7ad-02a5-4cbc-96d0-136828ff12a9
If you only include a single video in your media roll, you'll probably want to edit the height of the code you generate (the dimensions appear twice, so you need to edit each height value)
I'm new to Screencast, so I might be way off on this, but I hope it helps

Does anyone know how to adjust the size of the playback screen? I would like to use a full screen view but would like my viewers not to have to scroll to move all over the page.
Thanks!
